# The first-mile infrastructure built around farmers

> Farmer1st is the first-mile infrastructure built around farmers. Companies, governments and organisations use one farmer-controlled network to collect, verify and share origin data — plot geolocation, deforestation checks, EUDR due diligence, surveys and training — and build the specific services they need on top of it.

Traceability, compliance and direct farmer engagement — on one farmer-controlled network. Need something we don't have yet? We prototype it with you in days.

## The first mile still runs on paper and trust.

Regulation now asks for proof at the level of the plot. The people who grow the crop are the ones the data systems know least about.

- 500 million smallholders. Almost no reliable data about them. Who farms which plot, what was planted, how it was grown, where it went — mostly unrecorded, or recorded by hand and re-keyed along the chain.
- Paper, spreadsheets and trust. Declarations are passed from hand to hand. Every buyer collects the same facts again, from the same farmers.
- Plot-level proof. EUDR and CSDDD expect geolocated, verifiable, audit-ready evidence from the very first mile.

## One network. The farmer at the centre.

Five layers wrap around the farmer, and every actor in the chain plugs into the same data backbone — each seeing only what the farmer has consented to share.

1. **Field** — Offline-first apps for field agents and farmers — collection where the work happens.
2. **Data** — A verified farmer and plot registry: one record, consented and traceable.
3. **Geo** — Audit-ready geolocation: polygons checked and deforestation assessed up to today.
4. **Intelligence** — Plot-level risk signals, and AI added to support farmers and users.
5. **Network** — Connects to the field tools, ERPs and compliance platforms you already use.

Actors: Brands, Traders, Cooperatives, NGOs, Governments, Banks.

## Switch on the modules you need.

Each service is a module on the same farmer-controlled network. Start with one, add the next — no need to rebuild the road each time.

- [EUDR compliance](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/eudr-compliance/) — From plot polygons to a submitted DDS: EUDR due diligence built on verified first-mile data, sent directly to EU TRACES.
- [Geo & polygons](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/geo-polygons/) — Polygons captured in the field, validated, and assessed for deforestation up to today. Your calculation method, not ours imposed.
- [Field agent management](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/field-agent-management/) — Missions, routes, offline collection and supervision for the teams who gather first-mile data, with quality checked as it comes in.
- [Farmer surveys](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/farmer-surveys/) — Ask the farmers you need to hear from, by country, region, gender, age or crop. Consented, verified answers, fairly compensated.
- [Training & quizzes](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/training-quizzes/) — Train the right farmers, test what stuck, train again where it didn't, and measure the impact on the indicators you report.
- [Trees & agroforestry](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/trees-agroforestry/) — Every tree registered, measured and followed over time, so agroforestry programmes can show what was planted and what survived.
- [Carbon](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/carbon/) — Scope 3 figures and MRV dossiers built from verified plot and farm data, with farmers part of the value they help create.
- [AI agronomist](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/ai-agronomist/) — Practical agronomic answers in local languages, from a shared knowledge base, for farmers and the teams who support them.
- [Farmer app & engagement](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/farmer-app/) — Offline, in local languages, with voice: a direct channel to farmers, where they control their data and receive payments.
- [Fraud detection](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/fraud-detection/) — Duplicate farmers, impossible volumes and side-selling, detected in your supply base and, if buyers choose, across buyers.
- [Human rights due diligence](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/human-rights/) — Child labour monitoring and remediation, an independent grievance channel and living income data, from the households themselves.
- [Data integration](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/data-integration/) — Any tool, any spreadsheet, one verified record: AI-assisted mapping checked by a person, with every version kept.
- [Traceability & certification](https://farmer1st.org/en/services/traceability-certification/) — From plot to lot: first-mile chain of custody, mass balance and audit-ready certification records, with origin attested by farmers.

## Your specific need, live in days, refined with you.

Not a frozen SaaS: modular services you switch on, and whatever is missing we build.

1. **Explore** — We map your supply chain, your obligations and the gap between them — in your words.
2. **Prototype** — We assemble existing modules and build the missing piece. You use it, we adjust.
3. **Deploy** — It runs on the same network as everything else — and keeps being refined with you.

> We don't make you rebuild the road. We build the last stretch you need, with you.

## Private by default. Pre-competitive by choice.

Everything a buyer brings stays theirs. When buyers decide something shouldn't be paid for twice, the network lets them share it, on terms they set together. Never imposed.

**Pre-competitive** — What buyers agree to pool, on terms they set together. Fraud detection; Agronomic knowledge; Farmer access for surveys; Common farmer records.

**Yours alone** — Nobody sees them unless you decide. Farmer registry; Plot polygons; Prices & volumes; Supplier relationships.

- **Your call** — Nothing is shared unless you and the other buyers decide.
- **Shared cost** — What you pool is paid for once, not by each buyer separately.
- **Fraud caught across buyers** — Without exposing one buyer's data to another.
- **Farmers asked once** — When buyers pool their surveys, not again and again.

## Farmers control their data. That's the point.

For you, it is risk reduction: a legal basis through consent, clear provenance, better quality — and no vendor lock-in.

- **Farmer consent** — Farmers decide what is shared, with whom and for what. Consent is recorded, not assumed.
- **In-country hosting** — Data can be hosted in the country it comes from — national systems are integrated, not competed with.
- **Encrypted end to end** — From the field device to the report, data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Offline-first in the field, with AI added to support farmers and the teams who work with them.

## Every first mile, one backbone.

The same modules adapt to the specifics of each supply chain — its risks, its rules and its farmers.

- [Cocoa](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/cocoa/) — From many small plots to one verified record per farmer: cocoa traceability, EUDR due diligence and child labour monitoring.
- [Coffee](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/coffee/) — From cherry deliveries at the washing station to an exported lot: plot-level coffee traceability and EUDR due diligence.
- [Rubber](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/rubber/) — From tappers and dealers to the factory gate: plot-level natural rubber traceability and EUDR due diligence.
- [Palm oil](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/palm-oil/) — From independent smallholders and dealers to the mill: plot-level palm oil traceability and EUDR due diligence.
- [Cashew](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/cashew/) — From smallholder orchards through traders to processing abroad: first-mile cashew traceability and due diligence data.
- [Spices](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/spices/) — Pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves: first-mile traceability, quality and practice data for very fragmented supply chains.
- [Cotton](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/cotton/) — From input distribution to the gin: first-mile cotton traceability and the evidence buyers need on labour conditions.
- [Other commodities](https://farmer1st.org/en/commodities/other-commodities/) — Tea, sugarcane, rice, fruits, nuts, shea: one first-mile backbone, adapted to your supply chain in the Nursery.

## Built for everyone who depends on the first mile.

Different questions, one network underneath.

- [Food & agri companies and traders](https://farmer1st.org/en/who-its-for/food-agri-companies/) — Brands, traders, processors, exporters and cooperatives: first-mile data you can file, audit and build on.
- [Governments & national programmes](https://farmer1st.org/en/who-its-for/governments/) — A national farmer registry, plot mapping and export traceability, hosted in-country and built to work with the institutions you already have.
- [NGOs, donors, banks & researchers](https://farmer1st.org/en/who-its-for/ngos-donors-banks/) — Ask the right farmers, close the gaps you find and report the impact: surveys, training and measurement on one network.
- [Investors](https://farmer1st.org/en/who-its-for/investors/) — First-mile data is the missing layer. A farmer-controlled network, private by default and pre-competitive by choice, is how it gets built.
