Module 03 / Field

Field agent management: offline missions, routes and data quality

Missions, routes, offline collection and supervision for the teams who gather first-mile data, with quality checked as it comes in.

In short

Farmer1st's field agent management lets you plan missions and routes, assign them to field agents, collect farmer and plot data offline, and supervise quality as it arrives. Supervisors see coverage, progress and errors in near real time, and data syncs automatically when agents are back in network range.

What it does

Field agent management

Missions and routes

Plan what needs to be collected, where and by whom, and group visits into routes that make sense on the ground.

Offline collection

Agents register farmers, walk plot boundaries, run surveys and record deliveries without a network, for days if needed.

Supervision

Supervisors follow coverage, progress and issues by agent, area and mission, and step in where work falls behind.

Data quality at the source

Checks run on the device and on sync: missing fields, duplicates, suspicious GPS traces, polygons that fail validation.

Reliable sync

Data syncs automatically when a connection returns, with conflicts resolved and nothing overwritten.

How it works

How it works

  1. 01

    Plan the campaign

    Define the target farmers, plots or villages and the forms to use, then turn them into missions assigned to agents.

  2. 02

    Collect in the field

    Agents work offline on their phones, guided by the mission list, with consent recorded for every farmer.

  3. 03

    Check quality as it arrives

    Automatic checks flag errors; supervisors review, approve or send records back for a revisit.

  4. 04

    Close the loop

    Corrected data flows into the registry and into the services that depend on it, from EUDR to surveys.

What you get

What you get
  • Full coverage of the supply base you target
  • Fewer revisits and re-keyed forms
  • Supervisors who see problems early
  • Field data ready for compliance and reporting

Why does field work decide the quality of first-mile data?

Almost every piece of first-mile data starts with a person in the field: a field agent registering a farmer, walking a plot boundary, running a survey or recording a delivery. If that work is poorly planned, unsupervised or done on paper, the problems travel all the way to the due diligence statement or the impact report.

Field agent management gives the teams who do that work, and the people who supervise them, one system built for real conditions: long distances, no network, many agents and many farmers.

How are missions and routes planned?

You start from what needs to be done: register farmers in a set of villages, capture polygons for plots that lack them, run a survey with a target group, or revisit plots flagged by the geo service. Each task becomes a mission with a place, a form and an agent.

Missions can be grouped into routes that follow how agents actually travel. When priorities change, for example after a deforestation alert or a failed validation, supervisors add or reassign missions and agents see them at their next sync.

What can agents do offline?

The app is offline-first. Agents can work for days without a connection and still:

  • register farmers and record their consent;
  • capture plot boundaries by walking them with GPS;
  • run surveys, trainings and quizzes;
  • record deliveries and transactions at buying points;
  • take photos as evidence.

Data syncs automatically when a connection returns. Conflicts are resolved without overwriting anything: every version is kept, so you can see who changed what, and when.

How do supervisors keep control of quality?

Quality is checked at the source, which is cheaper than finding errors months later.

CheckWhen it runs

Answers that contradict earlier recordsAt sync

Supervisors see coverage and progress by mission, agent and area. They review flagged records, approve them or send them back as a revisit. Patterns become visible early: an agent who needs more training, a village that was skipped, a form question that confuses everyone.

How does this connect to the rest of the platform?

Field agent management is the collection engine for the other services. It feeds verified plots to EUDR compliance, reaches farmers for farmer surveys and training and quizzes, and records the deliveries behind first-mile traceability. Farmers who use the farmer app can also confirm or correct their own data, which reduces the load on agents.

Farmer1st is the first-mile infrastructure built around farmers: a farmer-controlled network where companies, governments and organisations collect, verify and share origin data, and build the services they need on top of it. Field teams are how that data reaches the network.

Can it adapt to the way our teams already work?

Yes. Forms, roles and approval steps follow your organisation, whether your agents are your own staff, cooperative field officers or contracted teams. Modules switch on as you need them, and if you need something specific, such as a new form type, an incentive scheme for agents or a custom supervision view, we prototype it with you in the Nursery.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the field agent app work without internet?

Yes. It is offline-first: agents can register farmers, capture polygons, run surveys and record transactions for days without a connection. Data syncs automatically when the phone is back in range.

Can our cooperative staff or third-party field teams use it?

Yes. Missions can be assigned to your own staff, cooperative field officers or contracted teams, each with the access they need and nothing more. Supervisors see the work of the teams they manage.

How do you control the quality of data collected by agents?

Checks run on the phone while the agent works and again when data syncs: required fields, duplicate farmers, GPS accuracy, polygon validation and answers that contradict earlier records. Records that fail are flagged for review or sent back as a revisit mission.

How do supervisors follow the work?

Supervisors see coverage and progress by mission, agent and area, along with open issues and records waiting for review. They can reassign missions, approve records and plan follow-up visits from the same place.

Can we keep using our current forms and field tools?

Yes. Forms can be rebuilt to match what your teams already know, and data from other field tools can be imported and checked in the same way. We plug into the tools you already use rather than asking you to start over.
