Natural rubber traceability and EUDR compliance for smallholder supply chains
From tappers and dealers to the factory gate: plot-level natural rubber traceability and EUDR due diligence.
Farmer1st gives natural rubber buyers a first-mile data backbone: verified smallholders and plots, audit-ready polygons, deforestation assessment up to today and TRACES-ready EUDR due diligence, with the link from latex and cup lump collection through dealers to the processing factory. It plugs into your existing tools, and specific needs are prototyped in the Nursery.
What makes this first mile hard
Tappers and latex collection
Rubber is tapped daily and collected as latex or cup lump in small quantities. Collection is frequent, informal and rarely recorded against a plot.
Dealers and many layers
Between a smallholder plantation and a processing factory there are often several layers of village collectors, dealers and larger traders.
Owners and tappers are not always the same
Plots are often tapped by sharecroppers or workers rather than the owner. The registry must record who owns, who taps and who sells.
Mixing at the factory
Processing factories blend material from many sources into graded bales. Due diligence needs the list of plots behind each bale, not only the last supplier.
Expansion into forest areas
Rubber planting has expanded into forested landscapes in some regions. Buyers need plot-level evidence that their supply is not linked to recent forest loss.
Modules for this supply chain
EUDR compliance
From plot polygons to a submitted DDS: EUDR due diligence built on verified first-mile data, sent directly to EU TRACES.

Polygons captured in the field, validated, and assessed for deforestation up to today. Your calculation method, not ours imposed.
Explore the module →Field agent management
Missions, routes, offline collection and supervision for the teams who gather first-mile data, with quality checked as it comes in.
Explore the module →Traceability & certification
From plot to lot: first-mile chain of custody, mass balance and audit-ready certification records, with origin attested by farmers.
Explore the module →Fraud detection
Duplicate farmers, impossible volumes and side-selling, detected in your supply base and, if buyers choose, across buyers.
Explore the module →Data integration
Any tool, any spreadsheet, one verified record: AI-assisted mapping checked by a person, with every version kept.
Explore the module →Natural rubber reaches the factory through more hands than most commodities. Farmer1st is the first-mile infrastructure built around farmers: a farmer-controlled network where companies, governments and organisations collect, verify and share origin data, and build the services they need on top of it. For rubber, it keeps a verifiable link from the tapped plot, through each dealer, to the bale.
What does the EUDR require from rubber buyers?
Natural rubber is a relevant commodity under Regulation (EU) 2023/1115. Rubber and listed derived products placed on the EU market must be deforestation-free, legally produced and covered by a due diligence statement submitted through EU TRACES. This requires the geolocation of the plots of origin, a risk assessment and risk mitigation where needed. See the EUDR guide for the detail and official sources.
Why is rubber traceability so hard at the first mile?
Latex and cup lump are collected in small quantities, often daily, by collectors who buy from many smallholders. Material passes through village dealers and larger traders before it reaches a processing factory, where it is blended into graded bales. Each layer can lose the origin. First-mile traceability has to start at the first purchase and survive every hand-off.
How do you map rubber smallholdings?
Field agents collect plots offline-first, with AI added to support them and the teams who review the data. Existing polygons and supplier lists are imported and checked through data integration. Each polygon is validated, then assessed for deforestation up to today, using our method, a public reference method, or one that follows your risk policy. See Geo & polygons.
How do you follow material through dealers to the factory?
Each collection is recorded against a verified farmer and plot. Dealers and traders pass on the list of contributing plots with their deliveries, and the factory links each bale to that list. Traceability & certification keeps the chain of custody auditable.
Fraud detection compares declared volumes with plot size, tree age and expected yield, and flags plots that appear in too many supply chains. When buyers choose to pool it on the pre-competitive network, anomalies are caught across buyers without exposing one buyer’s data to another.
How do you organise mapping across dealers and villages?
Field agent management plans missions by dealer network or village, tracks progress and flags records that fail quality checks, so campaigns close the gaps that matter for your due diligence first.
What if our rubber sourcing model needs something specific?
Dealer onboarding, a factory-side reconciliation, a specific grading workflow: we assemble the existing modules and build the missing piece with you in the Nursery. You use it, we adjust, and it runs on the same network.
Frequently asked questions
Is natural rubber covered by the EUDR?
Yes. Natural rubber is one of the relevant commodities under Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, together with listed derived products such as tyres and some other rubber goods. Operators must show it is deforestation-free, legally produced and covered by a due diligence statement. See our EUDR guide.
How do you trace rubber through several layers of dealers?
Collections are recorded at the first point of purchase against verified farmers and plots. Each dealer and trader passes on the list of contributing plots, so the factory can link every bale back to its origin.
Can you handle plots tapped by someone other than the owner?
Yes. The farmer registry records the owner, the tapper and the seller as separate roles, each with their own consent, so the data stays correct and correctly attributed.
Can we reuse the dealer data we already have?
Yes. Data integration ingests existing supplier lists, purchase records and polygons from any source, and maps them to the network with AI-assisted mapping.
